Our Process

1

Consultation & 3D Planning

Comprehensive examination and 3D CT scan to assess your jawbone and plan precise implant placement. We use digital smile design to preview your new teeth. We discuss the All-on-4 process, timeline, material options (acrylic vs zirconia), and provide detailed cost estimate. This appointment ensures you're a good candidate and understand what to expect.

1-2 hours
2

Extractions (If Needed)

If you have remaining teeth, they are extracted 2-4 weeks before implant surgery to allow initial healing. Alternatively, extractions and implants can be done same day (more complex, longer surgery). We provide temporary dentures during this period if needed.

1-2 hours (if needed)
3

Implant Surgery & Temporary Teeth

4 titanium implants are surgically placed in your jawbone under sedation. 2 straight implants at the front, 2 angled implants at the back (up to 45° to avoid sinuses and nerves). A temporary fixed denture is attached the same day, so you leave with teeth. You won't go toothless. Stitches dissolve in 7-10 days.

2-3 hours per arch
4

Healing & Osseointegration

Over 3-6 months, the implants fuse with your jawbone (osseointegration). You wear the temporary denture during this time (fully functional). Soft diet for first 6-8 weeks. Follow-up appointments at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks to monitor healing.

3-6 months
5

Final Prosthesis Fabrication & Placement

Once implants are fully integrated, we take new impressions and fabricate your final prosthesis (acrylic or zirconia). The temporary denture is removed and the final prosthesis is attached to the implants. We check your bite, aesthetics, and make final adjustments. Your new smile is complete!

2-4 weeks fabrication, 2-3 appointments

Frequently Asked Questions

What is All-on-4?
All-on-4 is a dental implant technique that replaces a full arch of teeth (12-14 teeth) using only 4 strategically placed implants. 2 straight implants are placed at the front where bone is naturally thicker, and 2 angled implants (up to 45°) are placed at the back to avoid sinuses and nerves. A fixed denture is then attached to these 4 implants, giving you a full set of non-removable teeth. All-on-4 provides superior stability compared to traditional dentures and costs less than placing 6-8 individual implants.
How much does All-on-4 cost in Melbourne?
All-on-4 costs $20,000-$25,000 per arch in Melbourne (Oak Park pricing). This includes 4 implants, surgical placement with sedation, temporary denture, and final prosthesis. Both arches (full mouth) cost $40,000-$50,000. Acrylic prosthesis costs $20,000-$22,000. Zirconia prosthesis costs $23,000-$25,000. Payment plans available (12-60 months). Health insurance provides $1,000-$2,000 rebate typically. See our detailed [cost guide](/blog/dental-implant-cost-breakdown-melbourne-2026/).
Do I get teeth the same day with All-on-4?
Yes! You get temporary fixed teeth the same day as implant surgery. You walk in with failing teeth or dentures, and walk out with a full set of temporary teeth attached to your new implants. You never go toothless. The temporary teeth are fully functional (though you'll eat soft foods for 6-8 weeks). After 3-6 months of healing, the temporary teeth are replaced with your final prosthesis.
How long does All-on-4 last?
All-on-4 implants can last 20+ years or even a lifetime with proper care. The implants themselves have a 95-98% success rate at 10 years. The prosthesis (denture attached to implants) typically lasts 10-15 years before needing replacement. Replacement prosthesis costs $3,000-$5,000. With proper oral hygiene and regular checkups, All-on-4 is a long-term solution.
Is All-on-4 painful?
No, All-on-4 surgery is not painful. You're under local anesthetic plus IV sedation (or general anesthetic) during the procedure, so you feel no pain. After surgery, mild to moderate discomfort is normal for 2-3 days and is managed with prescribed pain medication. Swelling and bruising may occur but subside within a week. Most patients return to normal activities within 3-5 days. Many patients report less pain than expected.
Can I eat normally with All-on-4?
Yes! After the healing period (3-6 months), you can eat almost anything with All-on-4. You'll regain 70-80% of your natural chewing ability. Eat steak, apples, corn on the cob, and most foods you enjoyed with natural teeth. During healing (first 6-8 weeks), stick to soft foods. Avoid extremely hard foods like ice or hard candy that could damage the prosthesis. All-on-4 provides far superior chewing ability compared to traditional dentures (which only restore 25-30% of natural chewing).
Am I a candidate for All-on-4?
Most adults missing most or all teeth in one or both arches are candidates for All-on-4. You need: sufficient bone density (assessed via 3D CT scan), good overall health, non-smoker or willing to quit, and commitment to excellent oral hygiene. All-on-4 is designed for patients with moderate bone loss (angled implants avoid areas of bone loss). Severe bone loss may require All-on-6 or bone grafting. We assess your candidacy during consultation.
What is the difference between All-on-4 and All-on-6?
All-on-4 uses 4 implants per arch. All-on-6 uses 6 implants per arch. All-on-6 provides more stability and better load distribution, making it ideal for heavy chewers, teeth grinders, or patients with moderate to severe bone loss. All-on-6 costs $5,000-$7,000 more per arch ($25,000-$32,000 vs $20,000-$25,000). For most patients, All-on-4 provides excellent stability. See our [All-on-6 vs All-on-4 comparison](/blog/all-on-6-vs-all-on-4-implants-which-is-better/) for detailed analysis.
What is the difference between All-on-4 and traditional dentures?
All-on-4 teeth are fixed (not removable) and never slip or click. Traditional dentures are removable and often slip, especially lower dentures. All-on-4 restores 70-80% of natural chewing ability vs 25-30% with dentures. All-on-4 preserves jawbone (implants stimulate bone). Dentures accelerate bone loss. All-on-4 costs $20,000-$25,000 per arch. Traditional dentures cost $2,500-$4,000. Long-term, All-on-4 provides superior function and quality of life. See our [comparison guide](/blog/implant-dentures-vs-traditional-cost-comparison-melbourne/).
Do I need bone grafting for All-on-4?
Usually no. All-on-4 was specifically designed to avoid bone grafting by using angled implants that avoid areas of bone loss. 80-90% of patients don't need grafting. However, severe bone loss in the front of the jaw may require minor grafting ($1,000-$3,000). We assess your bone density with a 3D CT scan during consultation.
Can All-on-4 fail?
Yes, 2-5% of All-on-4 implants fail. Early failure (first 3-6 months) is usually due to insufficient osseointegration (implant doesn't fuse with bone). Late failure (after 1+ years) is usually due to peri-implantitis (gum disease around implants). Smoking, poor oral hygiene, and uncontrolled diabetes increase failure risk. If an implant fails, it can usually be replaced successfully. See our [implant failure guide](/blog/dental-implant-failure-problems-warning-signs/) for warning signs and prevention.
How do I care for All-on-4 implants?
Care for All-on-4 like natural teeth: brush twice daily with a soft toothbrush, floss daily using floss threaders or a water flosser (essential for cleaning around implants), attend checkups every 6 months, and get professional cleanings every 6-12 months. Avoid smoking (increases failure risk). Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth. With proper care, All-on-4 can last 20+ years.
